James Saunders was the second son on Charles and Elizabeth Saunders (nee Brabyn). He was baptized in St. Breock on the 1st August 1769.

He married Mary Williams on the 21st January 1804 and had a total of eight children between 1804 and 1829.

James and family seem to suffered from hard time and his name first appears in the Overseers of the Poor records for St Breock in 1815.

In 1841 census, James and his wife Mary were living in Brabyn Park where James was shown as a 70 year old agricultural labourer.

Mary died in Penard in early March 1843 and was buried at St. Breock on the 6th of March.

Sometime after this James was living in the neighbouring parish of St. Issey. On the 1st December 1847 the Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Saint Issey obtained a Removal Order against James transferring him back to St. Breock "as the place of his Legal Settlement"

By 1851 he was living with his son-in-law and daughter, Harry and Mary Pinch, at Tredruston, near St. Breock.

James died at Tregaswith, St. Columb Major, on the 29th January 1856, aged 81, and was buried at St. Breock two days later.

Additional Information

1. James married Mary Tyack in St. Agnes on the 16th September 1828.
They had five children;- Richard (C1830); Thomas Tyack (C1831); Charles (C1834); Mary Jane (C1836) and James (C1843).
James, a carpenter, died in Redruth in about May 1886 aged 82 and Mary, also in Redruth, about May 1891 aged 88.

2. John married Ann Mabeley in St. Minver on 18th October 1830.
They had four children:- William Mabeley (C1832); John (C1833); Francis Mabeley (C1835) and Mary (C1837).
The family were living in St. Breock in 1841 where John was an Agricultural Labourer.

3. Elizabeth married Thomas Gregor in St. Breock on the 10th February 1831.
They had five children:- William (1832 - died 1850 in St. Issey); John (1834); Elizabeth Ann (1835); John (1837) and Thomas Edwin (1844).
Thomas, a shoemaker, and family were living in St. Issey in 1841. He died in St. Issey in 1863 aged 55.
Elizabeth died in Cannalidgey, St. Issey in September 1850, aged 43.

4. Mary married Henry Evans Pinch in St. Breock on the 12th October 1833.
They had no children.
Henry, latterly a Clay Labourer, died in St. Dennis in 1883 aged 75 and Mary died a Pauper in the St. Dennis Union Warehouse in 1891 aged 82.

5. Charles, who was unmarried, died at Hay, near St. Breock in 1834 aged 19.

6. Grace married John Cole in about 1839.
They had two children;- William (C1840) ; Charles (C1845) and Mary (C1851).
John, an Agricultural Labourer, and family were living in Normansland, St. Issey in 1851.
John died in 1851 and Grace married Abraham Pill, a Lead Miner, in late 1854.
They had three children;- Philemon (C1855); Louisa (C1857) and Robert (C1859).
Abraham died in about March 1871 aged 47 and Grace in 1892 aged 72.

7. Richard - no further information but most probably died in infancy.
